Bar/Bat Mitzvah Program

Our formal religious school course of study culminates in the graduation from Chai School and life long Jewish learning. The celebration of becoming a Bar/Bat Mitzvah is seen as a milestone along the way to graduation. An integral part of the Bar/Bat Mitzvah program is a special family education seminar led by the Cantor during Sunday school hours for the Hei Class. In addition to reviewing cantillation and prayer, the Cantor touches on a variety of topics crucial to Jewish literacy. For more information, refer to the Bar/Bat Mitzvah Handbook.

Torah Readers' Club

The goal of the Club, for grades 5 & 6, is to meet for eight weeks and learn Torah "trope" - the melodies used for chanting the Torah. At the end of eight weeks, interested Club Members can read from the Torah at a Shabbat afternoon Mincha service.

The club meets meets on Saturday mornings 10:00 -10:30 am before Jr. Congregation in the school wing.

Members are required to know the Aleph-bet and have a basic Hebrew reading ability.

Send the application form with $10 (check made out to B'nai Tikvah) to cover the cost of materials.

The Library includes an ample selection of fiction and non-fiction books (in English, Hebrew, or Yiddish) on topics related to Judaism. The Library also houses the Jerry Yaros Memorial Jewish Video Tape Library which includes a number of video tapes on Jewish themes including Shalom Sesame Street, a joint project of CTW and Israel's Sesame Street, which introduces children to Hebrew and Israel.
