Shabbat Across America
Imagine an entire Friday evening dinner devoted to people who want to know more about Judaism. That's what SHABBAT ACROSS AMERICA is all about.
This program is part of the
National Jewish Outreach Program designed to give millions of unaffiliated Jews, who have little or not connection to Jewish life, a "taste of Shabbat".
Congregation B'nai Tikvah, along with hundreds of synagogues across America, will be hosting this wonderful program.
The evening includes an abridged prayer service, a joyous Shabbat dinner, explanations and discussion.
The evening begins with an instructional, beginners' service followed by dinner. Dinner: Chicken (or vegetarian patty) with roasted potatoes and vegetable, salad, beverages, dessert.
The following form can be used for seating arrangements and has been requested by the
NJOP for information, distribution, and statistical purposes.
Costs: $15/adult, $10/child (4-10 years)
Registration is not complete until payment is received.
Being a host entails a commitment to:
attend and be involved in the proper functioning of the event
make follow-up phone calls to each participant at your table
invite individuals from the event to join you at a class/lecture or service
invite guests to share in a Shabbat meal with you.
Although we do charge participants a nominal fee for the event, the program needs to be subsidized in order to keep it accessible to all. We hope you will contribute to this effort. You can help us bring Jews in our community closer to Judaism.
The annual New Member Kiddush honors new congregants and helps them meet and socialize with other members.
In late summer, Jewish area residents not affiliated with other synagogues are invited to attend Shabbat services which are followed by a special oneg or kiddush in their honor.
This provides an opportunity to participate in Shabbat Services and to meet the Rabbi, Cantor, current members, and other new members.
