E-mail Guidelines
No postings on the Sabbath
It is not unusual for messages on the internet to have incorrect posting dates.
So, please be very tactful before you flame someone for a Sabbath posting.
No commercial messages
We all get enough spam but, feel free to sell or trade your one-time, personal items (i.e. furniture, autos, TVs, etc.) and to ask
others for their opinions and advice. Others might appreciate those last-minute concert and theatre tickets that you may be stuck with.
No attachments Even a .TXT file can
hide a virus.
To foward a message, copy/paste it into "open code" and please remove all the > characters.
Multiple >>>s are the signs of an
Urban Legend.
Although, you cannot send attachments to the group, you can send a URL "link" as follows:
The link must begin with http:// and end with a space. If you code a period, or any other character at the end of the URL, that charachter will become part of the link, making it invalid. If the URL is longer than 40 characters, you should convert it to a shorter version by copying it and going to http://bit.ly.
Limit your replies
First, count to 10 and ask yourself if a reply is really necessary.
"Me too" postings are very annoying. Then
decide if your reply should go to all members, or
just to an individual congregant.
Use descriptive subject lines
Change it to correspond with your "topic". The need becomes apparent when you're trying to find a message in the eGroup archives.
Avoid Hoaxes and Urban Legends
When you see the phrase "Forward this to everyone you know.", please DON'T.
They can all be found at various
fun-to-read archives or Snopes.com.
Abbreviate long URLs
If you paste a URL from your browser's address bar that is greater than 40 characters, chances are it will break in the recipient's email.
Unless the recipient is very computer savy, they won't know how to piece it together to bring up the intended web page.
First copy the long URL and paste it into the window at http://bit.ly. Then paste the abbreviated URL into your email message.
Delete redundant text
Please remove, from your reply, any text not relevant in your response.
Page down to double check your message before hitting the "send" button.
Avoid UPPER CASE
Upper case in e-mail is equivalent to SHOUTING IN A NORMAL CONVERSATION.
Self Censorship
The moderators strongly believe this list should be totally open to the congregation.
Please be courteous (where possible) to your fellow congregants. :-)
